ALASKA TRADITIONAL MUSIC CAMP Banjo Classes 2009 Irish Mandolin/Tenor Banjo I & II (Eamon O’Leary) – These two different skill level classes will seek to accommodate those who are just starting out as well as those looking to expand their repertoires on tenor banjo or mandolin. We’ll cover as many different types of tunes as time allow, with particular emphasis on rhythm, phrasing and ornamentations. Bluegrass Banjo (Jay Marvin) – In this class we’ll get started on playing the five-string banjo the way it’s played in Bluegrass music. That means the world according to Earl Scruggs. We’ll don the mighty finger picks and get our right hands in working order. Bring a recording device if you have one. I’ll grab some finger picks if you don’t have any. Some Corn may be Shucked and some Creeks Crippled, but a fine time will be had by all. Clawhammer Banjo I (Jay Marvin) – If you like the rippling, popping, rhythmic sound of clawhammer banjo, we’ll get you started here. No need for the pesky finger picks used by our Bluegrass friends. No need for matching suits and Stetsons either. We’ll start with a basic rhythm for the right hand and learn a good tune or two. Clawhammer Banjo II (Brian DeMarcus) – Tips and techniques you can use in various tunes. Pickers should be familiar with standard and double D tuning. Clawhammer Banjo III (Brian DeMarcus) – More advanced techniques for fun and profit. |
